Multidisciplinary analysis on a marble bas-relief of unknown origin

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how a disciplinary approach is an excellent tool in the field of forensic investigations, capable of answering the questions posed by the institution and obtaining as different and as much information as possible on the findings analyzed, reconstructing the history of often decontextualized artifacts. In the present work, the results of the FTIR-ATR and SEM-EDX analyses performed on micro-fragments and powders taken from a marble bas-relief, seized by the Cosenza Carabinieri Unit for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and Anti-Counterfeiting (Calabria, Italy), are reported.

The autors report their experience in a case of air disaster in which a Tuninter airlines ATR 72 fallen down into the sea near Capo Gallo coast (Palermo, Italy) with 39 persons on board, resulting in six-teen victims. In the present contribute the authors argued the causes of the death and analysed patternes of injuries sustained by passengers involved in the fatal airplane accident using the conventional autopsy combined with postmortem Multi Slice Computed Tomography (MSCT) examination.
Using VIS/NIR and IR spectral cameras for detecting and separating crime scene details

Detecting invisible details and separating mixed evidence is critical for forensic inspection. If this can be done reliably and fast at the crime scene, irrelevant objects do not require further examination at the laboratory. This will speed up the inspection process and release resources for other critical tasks. This article reports on tests which have been carried out at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland together with the Central Finland Police Department and the National Bureau of Investigation for detecting and separating forensic details with hyperspectral technology. We here report a case involving a 21-year-old female, found dead in a central square of a city in the south of Italy. Initial evidences and circumstances were suggestive of a death associated with a sexual assault. Two peripheral blood and two vitreous humor samples were collected for the purpose of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) testing from the dead body at two different post-mortem intervals (PMIs): approximately 2 (t0) and 36 (t1) hours. The obtained results showed that, between t0 and t1, there was an increase of GHB concentrations in peripheral blood and vitreous humor of 66.3% and 8.1%, respectively.
